ラリー・ペイジが語る（１）

英語のヒアリングを良くしようと思って、
Where's Google going next?

を繰り返し聞いています。これはGoogleの創始者の１人ラリー・ペイジがインタビューを受けている動画なのですが、ラリーの英語は正直なところ私にはほとんど聞き取れません。何かモゴモゴ言っているような感じ・・・・。

何日かして、この動画は字幕をつけることが出来ることに気づきました。日本語の字幕はつけられません。英語の字幕です。それで英語の字幕を書き取ることを始めています。それを少しずつ和訳してアップしていこうと思っています。
２０１４年３月のインタビューです。インタビュアーはチャーリー・ローズというひとです。

• • （チャーリー・ローズ）So Larry sent me an email, and he basically said that we've got to make sure that we don't seem like we're a couple of middle-aged boring men. I said, I'm flattered by that. because I'm a bit older and he has a bit more net worth than I do.

• • So we'll have a conversation about the Internet, and we'll have a conversation about Google, and we'll have a conversation about search and privacy, and also about your philosophy and a sense of how you've connected the dots and how this journey that began some time ago has such interesting prospects. Mainly we want to talk about the future. So my first question: Where is Google and where is it going?

• Well, this is something we think about a lot, and our mission we defined a long time ago is to organize the world's information and make it universally accessible and useful. And people always say, is that really what you guys are still doing? And I always kind of think about that myself, and I'm not quite sure. But actually, when I think about search, it's such a deep thing for all of us, to really understand what you want, to understand the world's information, and we're still very much in the early stages of that, which is totally crazy. We've been at it for 15 years already, but it's not at all done.
• そうですね。これは私たちがよく考えることであり、かなり前に定義した私たちの使命は、世界の情報を組織化し、それを広くアクセス可能にし役立つものにする、ということです。そして人々はいつも言います。「それがほんとうにおまえたちが今もやっていることなのか？」　そして私自身それをいつもちょっと考えていて、それほど確信がないです。しかし実際、検索というものを考えると、それは、あなたが何を欲しているかを本当に理解し、世界の情報を理解するためには私たち全員にとって深いものです。そして我々はその初期の段階にまだずっといるのであって、まったく馬鹿げたことです。私たちはすでに１５年そこにいるのですが、それはまったく出来ていない。
